Freestyle Song (2008)

Video from a show by RIOT (the group I run) – in Dutch but you’ll get the idea. Singer Kristien Lindemans is commenting on different story lines that have a similar theme: man-woman relationships. Song is totally unstructured; there is no chorus/verse and no tagline.

Tagline Song: No More Men Older Than Three (2009)

Video from a show by RIOT (the group I run). This is an unstructured tagline song. Song is in Dutch but you’ll get the idea: the setup is 2 kindergarten teachers, who both have both had bad experiences the weekend before. They decide to stick to men younger than three. You will hear them count 1-2-3 which in Dutch sounds like Ayn-Tway-Dree. Video quality is not great and the sound is out of sync but I really like the video.  Great rhyming too!

Dreams Come True

Closing song for a show by RIOT (the group I run) at the Finland International Improv Festival 2016. The structure is a wrap-up of the 3 story lines.

Gerolsteiner

Another song from a show by RIOT (the group I run) at the Finland International Improv Festival 2016. The format is such that when the audience throws a flower, a song must be sung – you can hear Katrijn Van Bouwel signalling “flower” to the players.  Flower was thrown when Koen Thewissen named a character “Gerolsteiner”.  Koen actually started with a parlando in German, not realizing that the audience probably didn’t understand any German.  After the song the characters actually joked around about that.

Opening of a Muscial Harold (2017)

This is a video of the opening of a Musical Harold performance with Caque. You’ll see me host the introduction where we got as a suggestion “Colorful” and then the opening. I have a long post on how we made this particular format. Keep in mind that the players only workshopped this for a couple of hours; it didn’t go exactly as planned and you’ll find my notes in the post linked above. The opening is based on an exercise I invented at a festival in Utrecht and there’s video of that as well.

Song in Musical Harold (2017)

This is a song from the Musical Harold performance mentioned above, with Caque.  In the opening song the singer, Sigrid Laget, used the suggestion “Colorful” to introduce a character on LSD.  In her first beat she established the character as a US soldier in Vietnam during the war, subject to a military experiment in the army.  Her song is “I didn’t sign up for this”.   I have a long post on how we made this particular format.
